I just finished the book and both my wife and I found it very helpful and definitely recommend it. We are planning on tuning in on the sermon series as well. Some people have suggested that the gospel is somehow inferior to other christian doctrines in the sense that we start with the gospel and then we move into the meat of biblical theology. I think it is proper to say that we need to start with the gospel but we have to be continually reminded of the gospel and seek to understand the depths of the gospel as we live. Paul says in 1 Cor 15:1-2 "Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain." Paul wanted to remind the Corinthians of the gospel. In Galatians 3:1-3 he writes, "O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" I know that the natural state of the human heart is to not believe the gospel that is why God has to open the human heart to receive it and that is why we need to continually remind one another about the significance of the gospel and our day to day walks with Christ. I know that this weekend served as a good reminder for me that Jesus has finished the work, and all I need to do is believe, I cannot add anything to his righteousness.Atlantic Gospel Networkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09723458291605488293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2280512928633887110.post-17735560187544693382011-11-06T15:53:00.000-04:002011-11-06T15:54:34.057-04:00LEAD CONFERENCE NOVEMEBER 11-12The theme for this year is “The Enduring Gospel.”
The goal is to examine how the gospel can bring about
change throughout New England. In New England there seems to be many who
believe one of two ways. It’s either “If only we start this program,
then there will be change in people’s hearts” or “Yeah, the Holy Spirit
works, but mostly in China or on the West Coast.” Although this line of thinking is not intentional, it has become the
mantra of many who are entrenched in the least churched area in the USA.
understanding more about salvation past and future than they do about
the spent benefits of the work of Christ in the here and now? Permit me

I (Cory Vail) was only able to make it to a couple of sessions but it was well worth the trip, I took the whole family Emily, Eli, and Theo we stayed at a nice Bed and Breakfast/Cabin Rentals owned by a Christian brother called North Rustico Cottages B&B Inn. It was beautiful and the service was great! Spending a couple of days in PEI was wonderful...WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE. My pastors wife Holly commented "this is what Heaven will probably be like :)." As soon as I can get my hands on some recordings of the sessions led by Josh I will post them up on the Network Blog and on Twitter. If you haven't yet join the network group on Facebook. Thursday and Friday night Josh spoke on Humble Orthodoxy how it is important to be both truthful and humble using every opportunity to examine our hearts to see where we are being unorthodox in belief and practice and spend more time repenting and less time accusing others of heresy. He laid out that we have to contend for the faith, but in a spirit of gentleness and love seeking to win our brothers and sisters who are in error. This is our hope for the network strong on truth, strong on grace. Many Reformed groups in the past have been pegged as legalistic, self-righteous, and just down right mean. We want to be known for loving and living the doctrines of grace as we thank God for his grace towards us and in response reach out with grace towards others. If we have been forgiven so much how can we hold an offense against a brother, not to mention Jesus commanded us to "love our enemies." The other thing we do not want the network to be about is a pitty party where disgruntled Reformed Conservatives get together to talk about the latest woes of liberals taking over the world, and the church. What we do hope for is a place for like minded Christians to gather in fellowship for encouragement, engage in theological discussion, pray for one another, host/advertise events where we can grow and connect, eventually be involved in planting new local churches, and be a part of the movement of God which is already taking place in Atlantic Canada and the world. We are along for the ride.

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

And there is perhaps no group of people who better embody the sin of self-righteousness in the Bible than the Pharisees. In fact, Jesus reserved his harshest criticisms for them, calling them whitewashed tombs and hypocrites. Surprisingly to some, this demonstrates that unrighteous badness is not the greatest threat to gospel advancement. Self-righteous goodness is....
Is it come to Jesus and everything will work out, your relationships will be better, your children will behave, your financial situation will be secure, etc...No! If you come to Jesus with these pretenses you are treating him more as an idol giver than the one and only Person who deserves your worship - the gospel is simply this, Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose for your salvation that by grace through faith you might have eternal life. He should be enough to satisfy your deepest longings. Don't sell out for mere idols by letting good things become God things.
